How to choose the appropriate specification of flame-retardant polyester filament?
When choosing the appropriate specification of flame-retardant polyester filament, the following aspects need to be considered:
According to the usage scenarios
Clothing: If it is used to make fire-fighting suits and other clothing with extremely high requirements for flame retardancy, specifications with excellent flame retardancy and high strength should be selected, such as flame-retardant polyester filament with high linear density and high fiber strength, usually with a linear density of about 150-300 dtex and a breaking strength of no less than 4.0cN/dtex. For general work clothes or children's clothing, the strength requirement can be appropriately reduced, but good flame retardancy must still be ensured. The linear density can be between 100 and 200dtex.
Home textiles: When making curtains, you can choose flame-retardant polyester filaments of different thread densities according to the thickness and light-blocking requirements of the curtains. Generally, 150-300 dtex is more suitable. Flame-retardant polyester filament used for mattresses and sofa covers should have a linear density between 100 and 200dtex to ensure softness and comfort. At the same time, its wear resistance and anti-pilling property should be emphasized.
For industrial use, the transportation sectors such as aviation and automobiles have strict requirements for the safety and performance of materials. High-strength and high-flame-retardant polyester filaments should be selected, with a linear density typically ranging from 200 to 400dtex and a breaking strength of no less than 4.5cN/dtex. In the construction industry, the specifications of flame-retardant polyester filament used for fire-resistant curtains are similar to those for home textile curtains, while for fire-resistant carpets, thicker filaments are required, with a thread density possibly ranging from 300 to 600dtex. Flame-retardant polyester filament used in the electronics industry is required to have good insulation performance and certain strength, with a linear density generally ranging from 100 to 200dtex.
Consider the fabric requirements
Strength: If high-strength fabrics such as industrial canvas and geotextiles need to be produced, flame-retardant polyester filaments with a higher linear density and higher monofilament strength should be selected. For instance, flame-retardant polyester filament used for making industrial canvas may have a linear density of 300-600 dtex and a monofilament strength of no less than 5.0cN/dtex. For some light and thin fabrics with low strength requirements, such as summer clothing fabrics and decorative fabrics, flame-retardant polyester filaments with a lower linear density, such as 50-150 dtex, can be selected.
Softness: When making close-fitting clothes, home textile decorations and other fabrics that require a soft touch, fine and soft flame-retardant polyester filaments should be chosen. Generally speaking, fine denier filaments with a linear density of less than 100dtex have better softness. The softness and gloss of the fibers can be improved by increasing the number of spinnerets. For instance, for flame-retardant polyester filament used in the production of high-end bedding, specifications with 75-100 dtex and a larger number of spinnetting holes can be selected to give the fabric a soft and smooth hand feel.
Abrasion resistance: For fabrics that are frequently subject to friction, such as work clothes and carpets, flame-retardant polyester filaments with good abrasion resistance should be selected. Wear resistance is related to the strength, linear density and surface morphology of the fibers. Generally, flame-retardant polyester filaments with higher linear density, smooth fiber surface and high strength have better wear resistance. For instance, flame-retardant polyester filaments used in carpet production have a linear density ranging from 200 to 400dtex. By optimizing the surface treatment process of the fibers, their wear resistance can be enhanced to withstand long-term trampoline and friction.
Combined with the processing technology
Spinning method: Different spinning methods have different requirements for the specifications of flame-retardant polyester filament. Ring spinning is suitable for processing various specifications of flame-retardant polyester filaments, especially for coarse-count yarns (yarns with higher linear density), it has a better spinning effect. Air-jet spinning is more suitable for processing medium and fine count yarns and can improve spinning efficiency. If the ring spinning process is adopted, flame-retardant polyester filaments of various linear densities can be selected as needed. If the air-jet spinning process is adopted, it is recommended to choose flame-retardant polyester filament with a linear density between 100 and 300dtex to ensure the spinning quality and production efficiency.
Weaving process: During the weaving process, different weaving methods have different requirements for yarns. For instance, the weaving process requires the yarn to have high strength and uniformity to withstand the tension and friction during weaving. Therefore, flame-retardant polyester filament with high strength and uniform linear density should be selected. The knitting process has high requirements for the softness and elasticity of the yarn. Flame-retardant polyester filament with good softness and moderate elasticity can be selected. For some special weaving processes, such as jacquard weaving, the appearance properties of the yarn, such as color and gloss, also need to be considered. Flame-retardant polyester filaments with good gloss can be selected to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the fabric.
